Sword in the Stone?
Funny question you say?
Possibly life would be better if the sword was back in the
stone. For the constant
attempts by men and women to
return it creates a tension, a turmoil which continuously
up-roots and confounds all our attempts at living life
moment to moment. Peace
knocks at our doors only to be
encroached upon by the next wave of vanity, of greed,
of lust, of insecurity.
Yes, it seems as a fairy tale, that Once upon a time
story...but the knight truly did live, did live valorously
and obediently. We can not
argue the point–the Sword
did come out of mans’ heart of stone and a life of peace
and a relationship with that Knight is a very real
possibility for each one of us.
Those of us who have grasped so tightly the cross, so
tightly the ideal of a new life, of governing our own life,
of eternal security watch intensely–sometimes wishing,
other times abhorring, then back again lusting, then
again despising the same cross.
Clutching ever so tightly, attempting self-appropriation
of the results of that One Knight’s obedient actions...the
cross becomes a sword which we wield as passionately as
any soldier throughout the centuries.
We try to become
the knight, save that our man-made attempts at
recreating a sovereign act of God simply creates havoc,
pain, confusion, disease, and death.
Let us bow in humility and see once and for all the
completeness of that One Knight’s service
on out be-half and look to the fruits which may
grow from a restful inner spirit. See
the
life-changing compassion, the solid families and communities
which can shine the light of
truth and love which eventually will radiate around the world
With the swords, we tightly grasp, we determine to direct
our life and our world, yet in reality it is being destroyed so quickly,
We see not perhaps how close we are to the edge of the abyss.
Let us relax our grip and
receive our inheritance gained through the cross,
walk in the lightness of being which fulfills life’s quest for
meaning and purpose. The
absoluteness of life awaits us,
do we dare let go and allow the sword to return to the cross,
to purify and cleanse our heart and souls to lead us to life in its
fullest?
If a few are willing, then perhaps there is yet hope
then perhaps the quest of the One Knight’s life of obedience
will be fulfilled in each one’s decision to follow those steps toward our
destiny,
to our high calling of true
humanness.
The world awaits, who will go first??
Who will loosen their grip on the
sword allowing themselves to see the
Cross and thus to purify
His or her heart and to become an
Instrument
Though which the world may be set
Free?
